Frequently asked questions
How do I get a live API key?
Sign in to the GoCardless dashboard (manage.gocardless.com), open Developers, then Create, then Access token. Name it, choose Read/write access, and create it. Copy the token (it is only shown once) and paste it into Cardless on the Home tab.
Is my key safe?
Your key is stored only in the iOS Keychain on your device and is sent only to GoCardless. Cardless has no servers. Live tokens control real money, so keep yours private and remove it from Settings if you stop using the app.
Why am I seeing sample data?
Until you add a live API key, Cardless shows sample data so you can look around. Add your key on the Home tab to see your real payments.
Does Cardless support the sandbox?
No. Cardless works with live API keys only.
A payment, subscription or instalment I created is not showing yet.
Links work in two steps: your customer first sets up a direct debit through the link, and Cardless then creates the payment, subscription or instalment schedule the next time you open the app. Pull down on Home to check now. Pending set-ups are listed under Saved links.
What is free and what is Premium?
The free version has ads and shows your payment stats; payment details can be unlocked by watching an ad. Premium (£5 a week or £25 a year) removes ads and unlocks creating payments, subscriptions, instalments and invoices, editing, and widgets.
How do I cancel or restore my subscription?
Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled in your Apple ID settings (Settings, your name, Subscriptions). To restore a purchase on a new device, use Restore Purchases in Settings.
Can I change which tabs are shown?
Yes. In Settings, choose Customise tabs to reorder them or hide any except Settings.
Why can't I change a subscription amount?
GoCardless limits how often a subscription amount can be changed, so an edit may be refused by them. The error is shown in the app.
Is Cardless made by GoCardless?
No. Cardless is an independent app by Toby Jones. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by GoCardless Ltd.
