Frequently asked questions
How do I group two windows?
Drag a window by its title bar and drop it onto another window's title bar. A tab bar appears above them. Keep dragging other windows onto the tab bar to add more tabs.
Nothing happens when I drag a window
iGroup needs Accessibility access to move and tab other apps' windows. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility and switch iGroup on. If it is already on, switch it off and on again. Also check that Enable iGroup is ticked in the menu bar menu, and whether Settings › General asks you to hold a key while grouping.
How do I take a window out of a group?
Drag its tab away from the tab bar, or press ⌃⌥U. Right-click a tab for more options, including Ungroup.
How do I switch tabs from the keyboard?
⌃⌥⇥ goes to the next tab and ⌃⌥⇧⇥ to the previous one. ⌃⌥W closes a tab and ⌃⌥R renames it. Change any of them in Settings › Shortcuts.
Can windows of the same app tab together automatically?
Yes. In Settings › General, set Auto-tab windows of the same app to All apps, or to Only apps chosen in Apps and pick them in the Apps tab.
Why did my Stage Manager setting change?
If you choose Keep tab groups together in Stage Manager, iGroup sets Stage Manager to show an app's windows all at once. It asks first. Turn the option off in Settings › General and your previous setting comes back.
Why don't Finder or TextEdit open native tabs any more?
Use iGroup tabs instead of native tabs is on. It turns off Prefer tabs and Finder's Open folders in tabs so iGroup can tab those windows. Turn it off in Settings › General and your old settings are restored.
How do I save a group and open it again?
Right-click a tab and choose Save Group. Restore it from the menu bar menu or from Settings › Groups, which can also save a launcher you can keep in the Dock. Restoring opens any apps that aren't running and tabs their windows together.
How do I change how tabs look?
Settings › Appearance has four tab styles: Rounded, Pill, Square and Minimal. Each style keeps its own height and padding. You can also choose close buttons, app icons, a background bar, tab colours and an accent colour for each group.
Which Macs does iGroup run on?
Any Mac running macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Liquid Glass tabs need macOS 26 or later. For older Macs, the Legacy Edition, available on Gumroad, works on macOS 10.14 Mojave or later. It is in English, and it can't launch at login or show tab previews.
