Privacy Policy

Overview
Fuel Prices is developed by Toby Jones in England, UK. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use Fuel Prices on iPhone. In short: there are no accounts, we run no servers that hold your data, and we don't collect your personal information.
What we don't collect
Fuel Prices doesn't ask you to sign up, log in or give a name or email address. We don't operate our own analytics or advertising systems, and we don't sell or share your information, because we don't collect it.
Your location
Fuel Prices asks to use your location while the app is open, to find forecourts near you and sort them by distance. Your location is used on your iPhone to do this. It isn't sent to us, and it isn't sent to the Fuel Finder service. You can say no and type a town or postcode instead. If you type a place, Fuel Prices looks it up using Apple's geocoding service, which receives the text you type under Apple's own privacy policy. Your chosen place is stored only on your iPhone.
Prices and stations
Fuel Prices downloads forecourt details and prices from the UK Government's Fuel Finder service. These requests ask for the national data set, not for your area, so the service doesn't learn where you are. As with any server you connect to, it can see your device's IP address.
Stored on your iPhone
The following stays on your iPhone and isn't sent to us:
- your settings, such as fuel choice, search radius, chosen place and display options
- your price alerts
- a copy of the latest stations and prices, so the app opens quickly
- a daily average of prices, kept to draw the Trends graph
Notifications
Price alerts are checked on your iPhone and sent as local notifications. They don't pass through any server of ours. You can turn notifications off in the Settings app.
Siri and Shortcuts
Siri requests and shortcuts that ask for nearby prices run on your iPhone using the same stored data. Apple handles Siri under its own privacy policy.
Maps
The price map uses Apple Maps. Apple provides the map tiles and, if you allow location, shows your position on it, under Apple's own privacy policy.
Ads
Fuel Prices shows ads from Google AdMob. Ads sit apart from the listings and never cover or imitate a price. Google is never given your location, alerts, settings or anything you do inside Fuel Prices apart from interacting with an ad.
To show and measure ads, Google's software on your iPhone collects some information and sends it to Google:
- your device's IP address and general device information, such as model and iOS version
- an advertising identifier, if you allow tracking
- how you interact with ads (views and taps), and crash data from the ad software
Your choices about ads
- Allow tracking. Fuel Prices asks once, using Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you allow it, Google may use your advertising identifier to show ads that suit you better and to measure them across apps and websites. If you ask the app not to track, ads still show but aren't personalised that way. Change it any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.
- Consent (UK and EU). Where the law requires it, Fuel Prices shows Google's consent form before any ads load. You can change your answer any time under Privacy choices in the app's Settings.
- Remove Ads. While the subscription is active, Fuel Prices shows no ads at all and doesn't start Google's ad software.
Google's use of information
Google's use of this information is covered by Google's Privacy Policy and how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
Purchases
Remove Ads is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see or handle your payment details, and Apple's privacy policy governs them. Fuel Prices checks your subscription status with Apple on your iPhone.
Buy Me A Coffee is an optional one-off tip, also processed entirely by Apple. We only record on your iPhone the date of your last tip, so the app doesn't ask again for a month. It isn't sent anywhere.
Links to other sites
Report a discrepancy and some other links open GOV.UK in your browser. Those sites have their own privacy policies.
Diagnostics
If you choose to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone's Privacy settings, Apple may give us anonymised crash and performance reports to help fix bugs. They don't identify you, and you can turn this off at any time in Settings.
Children's privacy
Fuel Prices doesn't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. It needs no account and no personal data to work.
This website
This website, unlike the app, uses Google Analytics to count visits. See the site privacy policy for details.
Changes to this policy
If anything about how Fuel Prices handles data changes, we'll update this page and, where required, the App Store's privacy label before that change ships.
